Compressor valves for starting air compressors and relieve valves for engines

HOERBIGER Compression Technology products are used in the marine industry in the two ways:

Starting air compressors: most high-sea ships are equipped with diesel engines. In order to start these engines, compressed air is blown into the engine cylinders, after which the engine begins operation through fuel combustion. The air is pushed into specially designed air brake compressors at a pressure of approx. 35-40 bar. HOERBIGER supplies the valves for such compressors.

Explosion protection: for many years, ships have used HOERBIGER relief valves in their diesel engines in order to minimise the effects of potential oil mist explosions in the crankcase.

Oil Mist Explosion

As a result of the large amounts of lubricant used, an oil mist is produced in the crankshafts of diesel engines, which can lead to oil mist explosions in the event of any sparks. Relieve valves are used in order to protect both crew and machines against the effects of such explosions The relieve valves immediately open in the event of an explosion and relieve the pressure, thereby preventing the external spread of any flames, as well as ensuring that explosion gases do not pose a risk to anyone or cause any damage.
